ARTIST STATEMENT: "In my paintings you find the reflection of my essence, of my existence, and of my dreams. My paintings conceive fantastic, imaginative figures, ironically nonexistent, which meet to reveal shaped characters moving and the flow of vibrating colors. They influence the audience to create a personal story." Alejandro Martínez-Peña . |

Excerpt written by: Jacinto Astiazarán, August 2000 The poetic vision in the work of Alejandro Martínez-Peña lays on two pillars. The first is a dynamic narrative, the second, a squeezing of subjective moods. Hence, in the narrative of his works, events generate a tension that is resolved when one finds the sense of the reality that is displayed. This is why his pieces recover a life more vital than any mere agglomeration of volumes and planes; the life of his works is centered on a dynamic visual composition that evokes, on the observer, memories of that reality formed by bodies and objects in motion. |

On the other hand, the faces or masks of the transfigured human forms express a moody feeling of gothic restlessness, the expressionist exasperation that seems to make them talk with those, their dispupiled eyes. In fact, they pull us with strength towards them and, at times, it appears as if though they are some ironic onlookers of ourselves, their characters, at this side of the canvas of life. Really, they communicate us with their tenderness and astonishment a great compassion and a feeling of profound empathy. Galerie D’Art International |
