PATRICIA FRISCHER
Gouache and Neocolor/Mixed Media

Artist Statement: “I define my work as neo-narrative. Neo-narrative work tells a story but with quantum logic. By that I mean that the pictures are not illustrative in a linear way but instead each gives you a piece of the whole. Although the whole exists it might never be realized. I feel that my entire life's body of work is part of a continuum, so events that effect me past, present and future can be glimpsed in the work.

I have no idea what the big picture is and wouldn't want to know. But with each series of 20 to 40 pictures, these ideas are brought more to the surface. I make a painting knowing that patrons will buy and separate the works. That is it's destiny. I love the idea that each picture has to survive on it's own merit. I relish the idea that in the future, some enterprising art historian might try to gather the work back together for a re-examination. And, of course, each viewer brings a new and acutely personal interpretation to the work.

After living in London for 25 years, I have now come to consider my home San Diego. I have noticed since arriving back in the USA, a change in my color palette. I loved the weather in the UK, dark, wet, never too cold, never too warm, always changing and with a wonderful glowing light especially in the late afternoons. But my pictures there reflected my early life - bright, hot colors. My pictures made in San Diego have less color as if the constant sun makes so much color unnecessary.”

Formerly on the board of COVA where she organized the Art Collectors Roundtables and the Open Studios, Patricia is now coordinator of www.SDVisualArts.net. She was educated at California College of Arts and Crafts with a MFA in sculpture. Her paintings have been shown and collected extensively internationally where she has had numerous one woman exhibitions, the most recent of which were at Mesa College and Oxford University.
