Christie has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic design and a 25 year involvement with clay. Her professional background is varied and includes work in print design, visual merchandising/store design for Banana Republic and product design and illustration for ceramic giftware with clients including Cost Plus, Starbucks, Target, Crate and Barrel and Williams Sonoma. Her background in commercial art has had a significant influence on the work that she creates.
Christie's Sculpture "Tree Rings" is part of The Suburban Trees Carlsbad Sculpture Garden (just north of Cole Library) 2955 Elmwood Street Carlsbad, CA 92008 Fall 2006 – Fall 2007
Her work in public art reflects her approach to each project: first, she defines the context of the work and then creates a design solution which meets the specific site requirements. She focuses not only on the aesthetic, but also on the relevance of the work to its location, which is impacted by the structures and environment that will surround the work. Rather than work isolated from the community where the work will be installed, she is interested in working collaboratively with project designers as well as residents to create work that has lasting meaning for the community. And, whenever possible, involve the community in the actual creation of the work.

In addition to her role as an artist, for the past 5 years Christie has served on the Solana Beach Public Arts Commission. She helped write the percent for art policy and draft the public art master plan. Christie has an understanding of the value and contribution of public art to the community the importance of the review process in selecting appropriately designed projects.
